The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has announced a streamlined update to its Responsible Gambling (RG) training standards for casino and lottery staff. The move is a win–win: it eases administrative burdens for platforms while reinforcing player safety.
🔍 What Changed?
As of July 10, 2025, AGCO no longer requires Regina Registrar approval of RG training programs across all gaming and lottery operators.
Training remains mandatory, up-to-date, and must adhere to best practices in player protection, but operators now have greater autonomy in designing and updating their programs.
🎯 What This Means for Players & Operators
✔️ For Players:
Expect quicker updates and more tailored training from casino support staff.
Consistent player protection standards are now more accessible and adaptive.
✔️ For Operators:
Operators can design their own RG training without waiting for approval, accelerating implementation.
This supports rapid rollout of new tools—like AI-based detection, enhanced self-exclusion, and earlier-intervention protocols.
Why It Matters
Increased agility: Operators can swiftly align training with emerging risks or tech advances.
Innovation-friendly: Supports Ontario’s vision for an informed and responsible gaming environment.
Transparency maintained: Even without pre-approval, programs must be documented and audited, preserving accountability.
